Cleanings, X-Rays, and Exams

Digital X-Rays are more accurate, take less time and emit less radiation than older, traditional X-ray images. Regular, professional cleanings & exams are essential for a lifetime of excellent oral health.

Sealants

A dental sealant is a plastic material that is applied to a chewing surface of a back tooth. The sealant acts as a barrier, protecting enamel by "sealing out" plaque and food.

Fluoride

The topical application of fluoride is a generally recommended treatment for children through the age of eighteen and can also be used to treat adults “at-risk” for dental cavities.

Sealing and Root Planning

Periodontitis is an infection of the gum and bone that hold teeth in place. If the problem is not treated it can result in tooth loss. The treatment has huge benefits, you'll increase the chances of keeping your natural teeth. Scaling-cleans the teeth to remove deposits above and below the gumline. Root planning-smoothes rough root surfaces so the gum can heal. Oral irrigation-directs liquid below the gumline to flush out and kill germs and allow the regrowth of healthy tissue.

TMJ & Night Guard Appliances (Teeth Grinding)

Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ) is an umbrella term covering pain and dysfunction of the muscles that move the jaw and the joints which connect the mandible to the skull.  The most important feature is pain, followed by restricted mandibular movement, and noises from the TMJ during jaw movement.

Grinding and clenching can cause excessive stress and tension to your jaw joints, your neck muscles, and to your teeth.   The high intensity contraction of these powerful muscles becomes painful and damages surrounding tissues, joints, and other muscles.  This can result in morning tension headaches, stiff neck, sore, sensitive teeth, painful aching jaw, and fractured teeth.

Night Guard Appliances

  • Many people are afflicted with bruxism, or teeth grinding. Some people may do this consciously during the day, but it is a larger problem at night while you are asleep. Grinding your teeth can damage enamel, wear down teeth, cause jaw pain, or irritate your gums.
  • If you grind your teeth you should consider a night guard. The night guard, which is very similar to a mouth guard worn by athletes, provides a barrier between your top and bottom teeth while you sleep. All night guards are custom fitted for comfort and to allow for proper breathing. Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth and have the night guard created by a dental lab. Night guards are very durable and can be used for up to 10 years.
  • There are also some things that you can do to try to stop teeth grinding. You can train your jaw to be free and easy rather than clenched. Refrain from chewing gum or on other objects like pens. You should also avoid alcoholic drinks and drinks with caffeine, as these can increase the likelihood you will grind your teeth. If you suspect you might be grinding your teeth at night set up an appointment with us today.

Sleep Apnea Screening & Appliances

The lack of breathing during nighttime hours, the appliance works by moving the lower jaw slightly forward, which tightens the soft tissue and muscles of the upper airway, which in turn prevents obstruction while you sleep.
